Like many OTs, from when I was 3 years old, I always knew I wanted to help people...
In school, we mostly taught about direct patient care and helping 1 patient at a time.
We're taught to further our education with continuing ed and get a bunch of certificates to justify our knowledge.
And if we're being honest, society expects us to go work a 9-5 until we're 65 years old before we can retire.
For my first 7 years as an OT, I worked multiple hospital-based jobs.
In many ways it was great...I had a secure job and health benefits.
✔️ Yes, I had great co-workers and bosses.
✔️ Yes, I loved my patients and learned a ton.
But when I got pregnant with my first daughter everything changed...
I quickly realized that I wanted to be home with my baby instead of working the evening hours no one wanted.
In 2019, I started a telehealth private practice as my first real work-from-home option.
But the truth is that I was still serving ONE patient at a time.
It wasn't until COVID hit that I realized the impact I could really make online.
OTs needed me to teach them about telehealth. By creating my first Minimum Viable Product, I created a ripple effect of servitude.
I was helping THOUSANDS of patients and families, by helping OTs quickly transition from in-person to telehealth.
To think that one digital product could help so many people was beyond my wildest dreams.
The more I thought about the impact I was having, the less I could deny it...
✓ With the power of the internet, I was reaching people all over the world. It was no longer limited to my geographical location.
✓ Creating digital products was making information more accessible for all. We didn't need to meet in person to share my knowledge.
✓ Serving others online was giving me the flexibility that I desired in my life. Freedom to set my own schedule and work on my own terms.
✓ The possibilities were endless...the sky was the limit on the types of products I could create and the type of people I could serve.
